The 3rd stop on the 2012 Mountain States Cup came to my home valley - Snowmass Mountain. Since I can remember there has been a race every year at Snowmass dating back to 2004 when I started racing. I’ve been living in this valley on and off throughout the summers for the past 5 years, but it would be the first time I slept in my own bed on a race weekend, which was awesome!

Snowmass is well known for their flat out fast downhill course, and this year it was no different. There has also been some recent trail development at Snowmass with the addition of a new A Line inspired jump trail that is a blast to ride. While at registration I was talked into racing the Super D race dubbed the Uber D, that went from the top of the mountain and would include the new trail called Valhalla. At 5.5 miles long, and close to 3,000 vertical drop you sure get your moneys worth. Before the start of the Uber D, some of the pro riders wanted to race chainless. We all took a vote, nobody voted against it, so we broke out the chain breaker and pocketed them. Momentum and exit speed would be my biggest concern as there are hundreds of turns on the track. It was a long run of pumping even the smallest bump in order to keep speed, but I must have done something right because after 17 minutes of riding as efficiently as possible I came away with a 42 second victory.

There was another Super D race the following morning that Pro rider Teddy Benge competed in. He avenged a tough Uber D run the day before, put his chain back on and pedaled his way onto the podium for a tough 3rd place podium finish.

The Downhill course had burned in throughout the weekend and was starting to get rough as moto bumps, ruts and giant bomb holes developed in many of the dry and dusty berm turns. The top of the track had been straightened out compared to recent years so speeds were high almost touching the 50mph mark. Seeding runs Sunday morning saw some guys go for it and blow up due to the rough track conditions. Teddy, Michael and I took it easy with Michael and Teddy slotting into mid pack and myself finishing 2nd while holding back a little and making sure I had my lines down.

The Juniors started out the day of racing by upping their game and riding hard for some impressive finishes. Tanner Spence battled through the pain of a swollen and bruised hand on his way to an 8th place finish. Younger brother Tyler had his best ride and result to date by finishing 4th, just two-seconds off of the podium. Roy Benge has been putting in the work, fresh off of racing at National Championships in North Carolina and the experience helped him finish on the podium for the 2nd straight race in 3rd less than a second from the top step.

Michael was the first to leave the start just ahead of Teddy, but just as he was getting up to speed his day ended quickly as his rear tire sustained an inch-long puncture, so he was forced to ease it down slowly to the finish. Teddy would improve upon his qualifying time and rode smoothly to an 18th place finish. I decided to gamble and run lower pressure in my tires so I could stick to the ground as much as possible on the high speed sections. This tactic paid off as I had a great top section and hit all my lines while navigating through the rough, rowdy and relentless course. Not even a mechanical near the finish could slow me down enough as I finished in 1st place 2 seconds up.

It was an incredibly enjoyable race weekend as the tracks were fun, the weather beautiful and being home for the first time in 2 months made for a very relaxed weekend. Thank you to all that made this weekend great. The team will once again prepare, pack and head 4 hours southwest to Telluride, Colorado for the last round of the Mountain States Cup and Colorado State Championships.

First time in history the legendary Cranworx fetival took place in Europe – Les 2 Alpes. I traveled there with a bunch of guys from my country to race Air DH.

We spent the first day simply by riding. It is great just to shred the trails in a train with your buddies, not picking the fastest lines like it is ussual between the DH guys. We are going up the lift for the last time and everybody is already sniffing where the air dh track could be. We see a huge gap on the slope far away.
„Hey, I can see something over there, looks like a gap to the big ravine.“
„Nah, too big to be true.“

The new track for air dh named FURY is as you can see from its name, really wild. Nobody was probably expecting a track like this.

As the training starts, small groups of riders are slowly moving from jump to jump to watch. The biggest crowd is at the stepdown/stepup section, where all the blood thirsty spectators are aiming their cameras. No time to wait, we cleared all the jumps in the second run.

Nothing special to say about the race. I was feeling really good whole three days. I did some solid mistakes in the racerun, because I didn’t remember the track enough, but it was a stedy run and what else, it was really fun!

This was simply the race which I will not forget about.

Banshee rider Shane ‘Flip Whip’ Trento putting his...

Banshee rider Shane ‘Flip Whip’ Trento putting his Amp & Rampant through their paces at Woodward West…

Banshee Factory rider Adam Brayton takes 1st place at BDS rd 3

Banshee Factory rider Adam Brayton takes 1st place at BDS rd 3

Paul Genovese putting his 2013 Banshee Amp through its paces at...

Paul Genovese putting his 2013 Banshee Amp through its paces at the Camp of Champions compound, Whistler BC.
Thanks to PlusSizeBMX for the video.

Shuttling in July should not result in this…

Shuttling in July should not result in this…

Banshee Grassroots rider Dennis Hoppe’s report from...

Banshee Grassroots rider Dennis Hoppe’s report from Willingen…

Hi!

The Bike Festival in Willingen took place last weekend and it was the first time I had participated in an event since my injury.

After waiting two days for better weather conditions - finally - Sunday afternoon the sun was coming out and we started jamming the well prepped lines.

The contest was hosted by Timo Pritzel and course built by Markus Hampel.

I’m @ 0.43 and 1.36. and ended up at 13th place while having fun on my AMP and not risking too much.

Ride on!

Cheers

Dennis

Invasive Species

Banshee Grassroots rider, Ollie Jones has been working on a new trail project up in Whistler, BC…

For the few weeks prior to this build I couldn’t stop thinking about building some bike related treats. Every season I like to at least build a feature or two, or even fix up old trails and maintain existing ones.

Last seasons project was a trail called God Thrilla and the final result turned out really good, check out the video.

With another full season ahead I figured its time to go bigger and better!

My new trail project ‘Invasive Species’ with have all types of goodness to ride. Big Features, technical sections, flow and loam. There is still plenty of work to do but its coming along at a good pace.

Its definitely a challenge and really tough work building a trail, but the rewards are incredible. I hit one of the features for the first time the other day and knowing that what I had in my head actually worked is the best feeling ever. I cant wait until the whole trail is finished so I can dial those lines in.

See you on the trails!

The superstitious sufferers of triskaidekaphobia try to avoid bad luck by keeping away from anything numbered or labelled thirteen. As a result, companies and manufacturers use another way of numbering or labeling to avoid the number, with hotels and tall buildings being conspicuous examples. Friday the 13th has long been considered the unluckiest day of the month. More ominously, the end of the Mayan calendar’s 13th Baktun is superstitiously feared as a harbinger of the apocalyptic 2012 phenomenon. Here at Banshee we’re hoping that the world doesn’t end just yet, as we’re more than a little excited about 2013.

2013 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Banshee. We’re headed in a new direction and we hope that you’re going to join us for the ride. We realize that a shake-up is more than a little overdue and we think that you’re going to like what we have in store for you…

Firstly, we have a new website. Check it out at www.bansheebikes.com We’re still putting the finishing touches to some sections of the site, but most importantly the bikes page is finally up-to-date.

We’re also in the process of phasing out the old blog and replacing it with this Tumblr page which you seem to have had no problems finding your way to. The old blog was a little too text heavy in this age of short attention spans and it wasn’t updated anywhere near often enough. Think of the Tumblr page as an extension to our Facebook page. Check Tumblr for the usual photos and video links, but also watch out for a behind the scenes look at Banshee and some insider info on our new bikes.

New bikes you say? Hell yeah! Look for new graphics and colours across the range and get ready for some all new bikes, starting with long awaited Prime all mountain 29er.
